I was born in Los Angeles, lived until the age of five in West Hollywood and in Beverly Hills till the age of 14, when I travelled to London with my family for what was supposed to be a three-week summer vacation. We never returned.

I didn’t miss LA much, not even the sunshine and warmth in contrast to London’s dampness and cold.

I’d left before I could drive and understand that LA was more urban sprawl than city, devoid of the history or character of London, which I grew to love, and which feels more like home than LA, maybe because that is where I truly grew up.
