Jump-from-a-bridge time?

Bats over Austin

The fifth stage of midlife crisis is withdrawal.

It's not like I'm going to stay in my room all day with the curtains drawn, though after four days of 100-degree heat it's very tempting.

And then I learn about Austin's bats:  1.5 million of them resident on the underside of South Congress Bridge.

Bats symbolize death and rebirth.

Bat medicine is said to release us from our old self, opening the door to something new and healing.

So it's bat-time!

They swarm out fifteen minutes on the dot before sunset.
