DAY FOUR: DEPRESSION (PART TWO)

Photo: Van Stein

I sat down to speak with Greg (from Gary, Indiana) who lives on the street.

His life took a steep dive when, as a young adult, he got sentenced to ten years in prison (!)... for possessing marijuana and cocaine.

(Could have happened to me or any of my friends from high school and college.  Could have happened to Obama or Bubba Clinton.)

The record, the stigma; he could never get accepted back into society.  Now earns about $160 a week on whatever day-jobs he can get.

A few minutes after this photo was taken, three chunky police officers from Austin's finest confronted our pow-wow and moved us along from our perch outside the Driskill.

(Chirped Van Stein, "Tell them you're staying in the LBJ Suite!")
