THE DESERT: ROOM WITH A VIEW

Spectacularly hot.

(Just as summer is meant to be.)

IN MOTION, DESERT BOUND

It's hot in the valley (and just about everywhere else this summer).

But hotter in the desert.

SANTA FE

Late afternoon downpour outside the Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi. (Lightning, thunder and three-inches of rain.)

After three days of roughing it, an evening of deluxe accommodations, an afternoon snooze, gourmet cuisine and fine wine suits us just right.

SANTUARIO DE CHIMAYO

Reputed to be the Lourdes of North America.

But while Lourdes, in France, is known for its holy water, this sanctuary is prized among pilgrims for its holy dirt.

THE TAOS SCENIC BYWAY

Cresting the Sangre de Cristo's (Spanish for Blood of Christ), a mountain range south of the Rockies named by early settlers for a red hue that enlightens the peaks (usually when snow-capped) at sunset.

Rolling south toward Chimayo.

GOOD MORNING, TAOS!

THE SILVER LINING

Casamigos Reposado, rocks, slice of lime.

A folk musician singing Neil Young tunes.

And good company at the bar.

Georgia O'Keefe and Ansel Adams were rather taken by the imagery of this old adobe church in Ranchos Taos, and they renditioned it in their art.
