CHIEF JOSEPH OF THE NEZ PERCE TRIBE

Chief Joseph always sought peace even while European settlers broke promises and violated treaties, perpetually chipping away at his tribe's ancestral lands and relocating them to uninhabitable reservations hundreds of miles away.

In this trio of statues, Chief Joseph points Meriwether Lewis  and William Clark in the direction of the Pacific Ocean, unknowing what horrors their mapping expedition would mean for Native Americans.
